Walk/Run Events in Toronto and St. John's raised $24,000 for Stuttering Treatment

Mary WoodEvent organizers at the Walk & Run fundraiser in St. John's.

The 2018 7th Annual “A Million Things I Need to Say” 1K/5K Walk & Run for Stuttering Awareness and Fundraiser in support of the Speech and Stuttering Institute in Toronto raised over $21,000! For the first time, the same walk took place in St. John's, NL on September 29 to support The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, and raised over $3,000.

Not only were these two wonderful days to support everyone with speech challenges; this year was a record for both fundraising and attendance. In Toronto over 130 people came to participate, and so many more contributed by donating to this event that we surpassed our financial goal! Given the inclement weather in NL approximately 40 people were in attendance and this first event raised over $3,000.00. AMAZING! Proceeds will go to clinical programs and ensure that speech therapy is available and affordable to those in need.

On behalf of The Speech and Stuttering Institute and The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NLASLPA), I would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who made donations and to our team of volunteers who help make both events possible. We are extremely grateful for your commitment and support. We are also so proud and grateful of your financial support which helps make such a powerful difference in the lives of the people who stutter. Together we help make life changing and dramatic improvement in their communication abilities, resulting in better overall health and quality of life at home, school, work, and within their community.

Be sure to mark your 2019 calendars for the 8th Walk & Run for Stuttering Awareness in Toronto on Sunday September 22, 2019 and for the 2nd Walk & Run for Stuttering Awareness in Saint John's NL on Sunday September 29, 2019.
