It was ten years ago that Greg O'Grady started planning a Walk/Run Fundraiser to publicize the need for stuttering treatment and raise money for the Speech and Stuttering Institute in Toronto. The event took place in September of 2012, had a barbecue and entertainment and helped to raise thousands of dollars for the clinic to help with finances for individuals and families that needed support. It became an annual celebration! When Greg retired and moved back to his home province of Newfoundland, he continued the tradition in both regions, St. John's and Toronto. In 2020 COVID lockdown put a damper on the gathering, and although it was cancelled for Toronto, it was safely conducted in St. John's using precautions such as masks and social distancing. This year, the ninth anniversary, it will be a virtual event that you can participate in across Canada!
This year, you can Register as an individual, family or a virtual team – start your fundraising effort! Please post your pictures/videos on the SSI facebook page or tag us on Instagram.
This year's event is in memory of Dr. Robert (Bob) Kroll who dedicated his professional career to helping those who stutter. You can read about Bob's life and impact here.
While this event does not have a registration fee, organizers ask that participants fundraise and/or make a donation. Whether or not you choose to participate in this event, you can support The SSI by raising money through collecting of donations. To ensure that Bob's legacy, spirit and memory lives on through the values and work of SSI, proceeds from this event will be directed to the Bob Kroll Subsidy Fund. This fund will continue to provide assistance for clients in need in his name.
