The University of Ottawa Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology program is looking for people who stutter to participate in a research project. Graduate students Cynthia Rochon and Shannel Champion will be getting a first-hand account from people who stutter about their communication experiences.

The methodology they will be using is called "Photovoice" in which individuals take pictures to best represent experiences with certain situations. Ottawa SLP Caroline Bredeson is a co-supervisor on the project.

The participants will be asked to take photographs in order to describe their experiences living with a communication problem. Participation in the project will begin with a group meeting, where more information about the study will be provided, and the use of photographs to describe experiences will be discussed. Facilitators will be present to answer questions and address concerns. For the following two weeks participants will take as many photographs as they like. A second meeting will occur at the end of the two week period. Participants will be asked to talk about their four favourite photos with the group. The discussion will be audiotaped. Photographs will be used in presentations and/or publications only with the permission of the participants.

This research study is an opportunity for people who stutter to share your experiences of what it is like to live with stuttering. This may help others to understand more about the condition.
