This month we celebrated National Stuttering Awareness Week, a week dedicated to putting a public focus on stuttering, which affects approximately 1% of Canadians. Knowing that we are all unique and that our stutters are only part of us, but do not define us, is an important move towards celebrating stuttering. But, in addition to this, here are 5 other ways that you can celebrate stuttering, regardless of the week!

1. Get Information: Want to know more about stuttering, but don't know where to look? The Canadian Stuttering Association has a great FAQ resource to get you started, which can be found at http://bit.ly/1TGWeEj.

2. Sign Up For Social Media: Social media is a great platform for connecting, engaging and sharing with people about stuttering related topics. The Canadian Stuttering Association has Facebook and Twitter pages that you can follow for daily updates on stuttering news, tips an stories. We also have a closed Facebook Forum to allow people across the country to access support for their stuttering and share freely without negativity or judgement.

3. Learn About a Famous Person Who Stutters:  The Stuttering Foundation has created a great and ever growing list of famous people who stutter. Check it out at http://bit.ly/1NxCruw

4. Create Art: Artists around the world have been creating art relating to their stutter, such as Knot a Stutter, which you can find at  http://bit.ly/1TiWKJd. Explore some stuttering related art or create some of your own (and don't forget to share it with us if you do!).

5. Watch A Video or a Film: So far 2016 has been a great year for stuttering related videos and film. The Stuttering Association for the Young put out a great video where people who stutter share their stories of resilience. You can watch clips of it at http://on.mash.to/1TjHtb8. Also, Stutterer, a film about a man's struggle to overcome his stutter while forming a romantic relationship, won an Oscar! Check out the trailer for Stutterer at http://www.stuttererfilm.com/.

Did you celebrate National Stuttering Awareness Week this year? Tell us how by tweeting us, sharing with us on Facebook or sending us an email!
