Shouldn't I Be Over This Shame Thing By Now?

Stuttering is a lifelong journey and many adults have worked hard to make room for their stuttering and let it peacefully co-exist in their lives. We may have worked on desensitization and self-acceptance and feel proud that stuttering is no longer something that consumes our every thought. But sometimes we are surprised when moments of shame creep in quite unexpectedly and we don't know what to do with that shame. Maybe we think, "Come on, I should be over this by now. I've worked on this for years." Why do we still feel shame? What can we do to process it and move on? This will be an interactive group discussion where we can brainstorm ideas together on how to unravel shame in healthy ways.

Outcomes

Attendees who attend this workshop will:

  1. Better understand that shame is just a feeling and doesn't have to consume us.
  2. Learn from others healthy ways to process shame and move on.
