Press Release: Canadian Stuttering Association Welcomes Canadians to St. John's for National Conference Celebrating Acceptance, Connection, and Community

ST. JOHN'S, NL – July 27, 2026

"At Home with Stuttering" conference brings together people who stutter, families, clinicians, and advocates from across Canada.

The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA), in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Stuttering Association (NLSA), is pleased to announce its 2026 National Conference, At Home with Stuttering, taking place in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, from August 21–23, 2026.

Bringing together people who stutter, their families, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), educators, researchers, and allies from across Canada, the conference will offer an inspiring weekend of learning, connection, and community while promoting greater understanding and acceptance of stuttering.

This year's theme explores what it means to feel truly "at home"—not only in a place, but within ourselves. Inspired by Newfoundland and Labrador's welcoming spirit, the conference celebrates authentic communication and encourages people who stutter to embrace their voices with confidence.

"Our conference is about creating a space where every voice belongs," said Eeva Stierwalt, National Coordinator and Board Chair of the Canadian Stuttering Association. "At Home with Stuttering reminds us that acceptance, confidence, and meaningful communication are built through connection. We look forward to welcoming attendees from across Canada to St. John's for a weekend of learning, support, and community."

The conference will feature keynote presentations from internationally respected stuttering experts Dr. Rosalee Shenker and Catherine Moroney, alongside an evidence-based professional workshop for speech-language pathologists focused on the assessment and treatment of school-age children who stutter. Led by Dr. Shenker, the interactive workshop will explore current best practices, family-centred care, collaboration with parents and teachers, case studies, treatment planning and the latest research to support positive outcomes.

Attendees will also participate in workshops, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and social events designed to foster confidence, connection, and lasting friendships.

More than 400,000 Canadians stutter, yet misconceptions and stigma continue to affect everyday life. The CSA's annual conference provides an opportunity to learn from leading experts, share lived experiences, and strengthen a national community committed to advocacy, education, and inclusion.

In recognition of International Stuttering Awareness Day on October 22, 2026, St. John's City Hall will be illuminated in seafoam green, demonstrating the City's support for the stuttering community and extending the spirit of this year's national conference beyond the event itself.

Media are invited to attend the conference and interview keynote speakers, conference organizers, and attendees. Registration is open. For conference information and registration details, visit https://stutter.ca/events/conference/2026.
