About the CSA

The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA) is an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization for people who stutter. Originally established in 1991 as the Canadian Association for People Who Stutter (CAPS), our mandate is to promote awareness of stuttering and support for people afflicted with this disorder. In 2006 the name was changed to the Canadian Stuttering Association. For those whose lives are affected by stuttering, whether friend or family member, the CSA offers education and resources about stuttering, and helps to faciliatate the formation of self-help groups across the country.

The Stuttering Community

For many people who stutter, feelings of being alone can sometimes be overwhelming. A primary objective of the CSA is to create a community where people can be accepted for who and what they are, and realize that they are not alone. The CSA is an impartial forum for the sharing of information through its newsletter, website and conferences. The organization also works with speech professionals and treatment centers, but operates independently of them.
