Self-talk is an inner dialogue that influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Positive self-talk enhances confidence and motivation, while negative self-talk causes doubt and stress. By challenging speech-related negativity and adopting realistic, supportive self-talk, it becomes possible to approach speaking with greater confidence. This workshop will guide you through the process.
Participants will (1) learn to pay attention to speech-related self-talk, positive and negative; (2) learn about unrealistic beliefs that help shape negative self-talk; (3) learn to challenge negative self-talk; and, (4) practice changing negative self-talk to positive self-talk that is realistic, motivates, and supports communication.
About the presenters
Carla Di Domenicantonio
Carla Di Domenicantonio was reminded about the impact of self-talk during last year’s conference when self-talk statements were used as part of a workshop she co-led. The positive and enthusiastic response from participants prompted the promise to offer a workshop on self-talk at the 2026 conference.
