Writing his memoir this question resonated. He recalls a young man just out of the closet as homosexual, while remaining in his covert closet being asked this question. This man fearing being outed as a stutterer, felt his only assets were his looks. Having lived life as a covert stutterer, another $64.00 question resonated, can covert stuttering intersect with commercialism?
As a stuttering community, we share similar journeys exploring ways of coping with stuttering, yet our lived experiences are different. Listening to shared stories we learn from others. By sharing how I coped with stuttering will echo that there are other ways to deal with stuttering. I hope attendees will recognize that our lived experiences help bring us here where are today, that our individual lived experiences help us along our journeys towards being at home with our stuttering.
