The Importance of "Finding Your Tribe"

Catherine Moroney

Saturday 2:45PM - 3:45PM EDT

For those of us who grow up feeling so different because of our speech, it can be extremely liberating to “find our tribe” and know that it’s “not just me”. We find strength and support in each other, and often inspiration in seeing how people who stutter can succeed in every walk of life.

Catherine grew up with an incredibly severe stutter and literally never heard another person stutter until she started her first round of therapy during university. To walk into her first stuttering conference and be surrounded by hundreds of other PWS changed her life. She indeed “found her tribe” and says her life would be much poorer without all the decades-long friendships made in the stuttering community.

What to expect

Learn about the importance of community for those people who are isolated due to their speech and gain an appreciation for the ties that bind us, despite differences in severity, therapy experiences, childhood exposure to other people who stutter, amongst other things.
