Stuttering, Philosophy and Literature

Lisa Wilder

Saturday 4:00PM - 5:00PM EDT

In this workshop, Lisa will look at various texts featuring stuttering. Philosophers such as Eli Siegel, Gilles Deleuze, the writers John Updike and Robert Graves, and the poetry of Jordan Scott will be critiqued for their depiction of stuttering and the implications they present of depicting stuttering in written form. She will look at how these depictions break apart the dimensions of stuttering and its impact on language, communication and being human. Attendees will be invited to discuss books and writings about stuttering that have had meaning for them.
