Dr. William Love

Dr. William Love was a highly respected surgeon born in Hamilton, Ontario who passed away last October at the age of 93, leaving a legacy of compassion, professionalism and perseverance. He practiced medicine in Hamilton, the United States, and in Burlington, where he retired. As his son, William Jr., recounts, Dr. Love overcame a debilitating stutter to become a doctor and surgeon.

He received treatment in Iowa from the pioneering speech therapist Wendell Johnson. Love also got training as a speech therapist himself so he could help others who stuttered like he did. He is survived by his wife Aileen, children William, Bob, Margaret and Barbara, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Dr. Love "was one of the first in Canada to perform a delicate operation to remove an irregular growth of bones in the ear, thereby restoring hearing, and his practice grew to be one of the largest in Hamilton". Read more about the life of Dr. Love here.
