Support Group for children who stutter starts up in St. John's

fluency friendsSt. John's, Newfoundland has a new support group for children who stutter. Speech-language pathologist Ashley Rossiter has started up a 6-week program that takes a peer-based approach to create positive experiences with stuttering. The sessions will run in August and September at the Newfoundland and Labrador Down Syndrome Society. See Groups page for more information.

walkathonFor the 6th year, the Annual 1K/5K Walk for Stuttering Awareness will take place on September 24, 2017. This is an annual event that helps to raise money for the Speech and Stuttering Institute, a clinic in Toronto that provides therapy for people who stutter. View photos of past years here!

How mindfulness can influence stuttering

What is mindfulness? Stated most simply it really is just about paying attention, either paying attention passively to where your attention is focused or actively focusing your attention on something. 

Mindfulness can result in profound change in people's lives and practising mindfulness can also potentially influence stuttering, according to Paul Brocklehurst, PHD, Director of the Stammering Self-Empowerment Program.
